Directed by Kwabena Oppong – A powerful feature-length documentary examining the global impact of the murder of George Floyd — and the cultural, political and media backlash that followed. Told through the voices of young activists and eyewitnesses, the film combines unseen archive, user-generated content and first-hand testimony to explore systemic racism, protest, and the role of digital media in shaping modern movements.
Holey & Moley were commissioned to design and deliver motion graphics across the film, developing a visual language that could support its investigative, media-forensic approach. Working closely with Rogan Productions and BBC Studios, we created a cohesive system that integrates seamlessly with the documentary’s layered storytelling — where digital artefacts become critical narrative evidence.
Our creative approach centred on forensic, evidence-led design. We leaned into screen-based storytelling, reconstructing social media environments, message threads and news ecosystems to mirror real-world user experience. Motion graphics were treated not as embellishment, but as tools for clarity and insight — presenting fragmented information in a way that feels immediate, legible and emotionally resonant.
Visually, the work is intentionally restrained. Familiar interface cues, typographic systems and layout structures were used to ground the film in recognisable digital language, while subtle animation, grading and 2D parallax techniques brought depth and cohesion across mixed media sources. This approach allowed us to reflect the intensity and information overload of the moment without resorting to sensationalism — reinforcing the gravity of the subject throughout.
The result is a documentary that resonated critically for its depth and relevance, contributing meaningfully to conversations around media narratives and societal response. Our work helped shape a clear, accessible visual framework for complex ideas — demonstrating how thoughtful motion graphics can elevate investigative storytelling.
We’re proud to have collaborated on a project of such cultural significance, and we look forward to continuing to partner on bold, story-led documentaries that demand clarity, craft and creative precision.
