“Cheat: Unfinished Business”

Working with Lifted Entertainment on Cheat: Unfinished Business gave us the opportunity to help shape a new tone for reality dating on Netflix. Known for genre-defining formats like Love Island, they wanted to create a series exploring more emotionally complex territory – focusing on infidelity, accountability, and life after relationships break down.
As a creative partner specialising in motion graphics and broadcast design, we were commissioned to develop a cohesive visual identity for the series, including title design and a highly flexible lower thirds system. From the outset, the challenge was clear: to create a graphic language capable of handling a large amount of evolving information—names, relationships, and house dynamics – while remaining elegant, unobtrusive, and adaptable across multiple editorial scenarios.
Our creative exploration spanned a wide range of directions. Early concepts drew on themes of fracture and tension – heat haze, embers, reflections, and subtle distortions inspired by the show’s “reckoning room” and its emotionally charged confrontations. We also explored visual metaphors rooted in holidays, Spanish architecture, and iconography, reflecting the sun-soaked setting.
Ultimately, we refined the approach into a sleek, modern broadcast design system. The final motion graphics are deliberately restrained – clean typography, confident composition, and a colour palette that echoes the series’ rich reds and golds. This simplicity allows the emotional intensity of the content to lead, while the graphics provide clarity and structure. A key part of our workflow was building a flexible lower thirds system that worked across every scenario—designed in left and right variants, with multiple colourways and interchangeable information – giving editors maximum flexibility without compromising visual consistency.
Cheat: Unfinished Business generated strong audience curiosity and contributed to the evolution of the modern reality dating format into more psychologically driven territory. We’re proud to have delivered a distinctive Netflix series branding package that supports this shift – balancing clarity, tone, and storytelling precision.
