One hundred and fifty million years ago, dinosaurs ruled the land, but the oceans were dominated by a mysterious sea monster. Meet the pliosaur, the Tyrannosaurus rex of the seas! Now, a giant skull has been found in the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast.
The film follows Sir David Attenborough as he investigates the discovery of a lifetime. He is joining two of the UK’s most intrepid fossil hunters, Steve Etches and Chris Moore, on their perilous expedition to excavate the skull from its resting place 12 metres up on the cliff face. Sir David has been an avid fossil collector since he was a young boy but has never come across a find quite like this.
Holey & Moley were commissioned to develop and style this landmark documentary; creating an evocative brand and following this style through the many graphic (and visual effect) sequences. This included creating blue chip titles branding to not only align with BBC platforms and values but also the co production partner PBS and their broadcast services. Enhanced graphics such and text integration, 3D animation, maps, titles, explainers and composites were supplied to help bring this thrilling new discovery to life.
Holey & Moley worked alongside talented partner Bandito whom worked on many of the stunning 3D visualisations of the Pliosaur, to seamlessly integrate and collaborate on an important landmark documentary.
The BBC special was first broadcast on New Years day, BBC 1 prime time.
