For Series 5 of Mine Rescue with Freddy & Juan, we continued our partnership with the production team behind Gold Rush to shape a distinctive visual identity that could match the scale, ingenuity and human stakes of the series. As Freddy Dodge and Juan Ibarra travelled across North America rescuing struggling mining operations, the brief was to create a cohesive graphical language that would support both the technical storytelling and the emotional journey at the heart of each episode.
We led the development of the series’ visual style from the ground up, crafting a title sequence and building a full suite of graphics that carried consistently across all eight episodes. Our approach was rooted in the physical world of mining itself. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes of British Columbia, Montana, Washington, Oregon and Arizona, we translated the textures of rock, dust, metal and gold into a visual system that feels raw, tactile and grounded.
To bring clarity to complex processes, we created detailed 3D models and renders of the wash plants and machinery central to each rescue. Stylised topographical maps anchored each story geographically, while archival imagery was reimagined through projection mapping and parallax animation—adding depth, atmosphere and a sense of history to every location.
Across every asset, we leaned into a rich, gritty palette—abrasive, granular and metallic, with subtle glints that echo the allure of gold itself. The result is a cohesive and cinematic graphics package that enhances both understanding and engagement.
Widely regarded as one of the series’ strongest seasons, Series 5 demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate storytelling at every level. It’s a collaboration we’re proud of – and a foundation we’re excited to build on in future projects.
