This Peacock Original documentary explores Gary Coleman’s rise to fame as a child star, from his inauguration in the iconic “Diff’rent Strokes“, his struggles with living in the spotlight, financial troubles, depression, and the controversy surrounding his tragic death at age 42.
Holey & Moley were commissioned to develop and style this contemplative docuseries; creating an evocative brand and following this style through the many graphic sequences. This included retrospective and contemporary computer simulations featuring; Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Animations featuring Gary’s own illustrations, were brought to life alongside the narrative; bringing Gary to the screen in a personal and authentic presence.
Extensive digital rostrum was styled and animated to upgrade and format the huge variety of stills and images documenting his life. This was all set in a tangible, contact-sheet film technique, featuring Ai enhancements, film effects, retouching and generative expansions (for formatting).
Visual graphic conversation waveforms were created to support the key phone communications that were integral to the investigation into Gary’s tragic accident and subsequent death. These not only supported the narrative, but created a visual identity and evocative treatment that followed through the graphic styling of this iconic Docuseries.
