Now in its second Channel 5 series, “Killer at the Crime Scene” explores how specialist forensic teams and detectives collate the evidence discovered at the scene of a murder to catch Britain’s killers. From the moment a body is discovered, the evidence gathered and decisions made in these early stages known as the “Golden Hour” can be crucial to link the killer to the crime scene and solve the case. Told through a series of laboratory tests and firsthand testimony this series delves deep into the vast array of crime scene evidence, following the twists and turns of each investigation and showing exactly what it takes to put the killer at the crime scene and secure a conviction.
We developed the series’ distinctive brand identity, carrying this visual language consistently across a wide range of integrated motion graphics. Our work encompassed Titles Branding, Lower Thirds, Explainer Graphics, Edit Templates, 3D Crime Scene Recreation, and Responsive Map Sequences. Each element was designed with sensitivity at its core, ensuring the graphics conveyed crucial forensic detail without undermining the gravity of the subject matter.
A key part of our approach was creating a flexible template system that allowed editors to generate bespoke graphics from the evidence itself, while also supporting more complex sequences. These included animated 3D crime scene models, double exposure composites, floorplans, DNA profiling visuals, interactive maps with animated journeys, and immersive cosmic zooms, all tailored to deepen audience understanding and engagement.
By blending technical precision with narrative clarity, Holey & Moley helped make the series’ forensic storytelling both accessible and compelling. Each episode’s graphics were not just illustrations—they were active participants in uncovering the investigation’s journey, bringing viewers closer to the moment the killer is placed at the crime scene.
This project reaffirmed our commitment to crafting motion graphics that are intelligent, empathetic, and visually distinctive. We look forward to exploring similarly challenging and creatively rich projects, where storytelling and design converge to illuminate the unseen.
