Now in its second Channel 5 series, “Killer at the Crime Scene” explores how specialist forensic teams and detectives collate the evidence discovered at the scene of a murder to catch Britain’s killers. From the moment a body is discovered, the evidence gathered and decisions made in these early stages known as the “Golden Hour” can be crucial to link the killer to the crime scene and solve the case. Told through a series of laboratory tests and firsthand testimony this series delves deep into the vast array of crime scene evidence, following the twists and turns of each investigation and showing exactly what it takes to put the killer at the crime scene and secure a conviction.
Holey & Moley were commissioned to help develop and style both Series 1 and Series 2; creating an evocative brand and following this style through the many integrated graphic sequences.
This included Titles Branding, Lower Thirds, Explainer Graphics, Edit Templates, 3D Crime Scene Recreation and Responsive Map Sequences.
Each episode across these series needed to deal with the sensitive nature of its subject, whilst conveying critical forensic details, so the graphics not only needed to be accurate but also conscious of their emotional impact. This meant creating a ‘template system’ with which edits could cost-effectively create bespoke graphics from evidence themselves, whilst being supported by more complex and dedicated graphics sequences, featuring 3D models, animation, double exposure, scene context, floorpans, DNA profiling, maps with animated journeys and cosmic zooms.
