Following in the success of the Netflix series ‘Fear City’ we find ourselves thrown back into the underworld of true crime, notorious gangsters and FBI investigations with this new three part series from Holey & Moley “Get Gotti“.
Told from both sides of the law, the docu-series follows the story of John Gotti, aka The Dapper Don, who was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 1992. The Gambino crime family member committed heinous crimes that led to his arrest and conviction, including; five murders, racketeering, conspiracy to murder, illegal gambling, bribery and obstruction of justice.
Holey & Moley were commissioned to develop and style the series; creating an evocative brand and following this style through the many graphic (and visual effect) sequences. This included retrospective graphic sequences featuring; micro-film, parallax animation, cinemagraph, projection mapping, microfiche, neon electronica, lower thirds, montages, locators and timelines.
Holey & Moley also created various visual effect sequences, taking historic archive, upgrading and suspending scenes in parallax, integrating graphic layers to create fully formed iconic segues.
Microfiche was used as a graphic technique, with a combination of neon electronica, parallax and solarisation to set the style and tone of this evocative era. It helped to format and re-create pertinent documents, upgrading them for the screen in a stylish, trend-setting manner.
Locators and Timelines were also designed, to fully integrate within the editorial, so a seamless choreography and integrated composite celebrated the archive and cinematography.
