Winning the Worldfest Houston “Gold Remi prize”, this intimate programme chronicles how a ‘diva from Down Under’ became ‘La Stupenda’, with exclusive interviews from Dame Joan herself, Richard Bonynge, Franco Zeffirelli, Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Sherrill Milnes.
Focusing on Lucia di Lammermoor and Alcina, the two roles that launched her onto the international stage, it recounts the rise of this extraordinary performer. A commercial DVD was later released of the 60 min programme.
The design challenge was to produce feature film sequences which could re-create Joan’s performances, with only her audio and some photographic references as available source material. Many of the key sequences were never captured on film, so her performances needed to be recreated using, parallax, 3D, film effects and the appropriate grades. Titles, astons, extensive graphic sequences and digital rostrum were produced.
