Two years ago, Dr. Riley Elliot discovered the largest aggregation of Tiger sharks in the world off the coast of the remote Norfolk Island in the South Pacific. Now he’s back, with expert underwater cameraman Kina Scollay, on the trail of an even more dangerous predator stalking these unexplored waters- the Great White. On an island where dead cow carcasses attract a frenzy of feeding sharks, Riley and Kina will put themselves right in the middle of the danger zone and use the latest technology to discover how these two shark giants, the tiger and the white, compete for Norfolk Island’s unique resources.
Holey & Moley were commissioned to help develop and style this returning featurette; creating an evocative brand and following this style through the many integrated graphic sequences.
This included creating a composite of 3D animation, live-action, illustration, matte painting and photography – all seamlessly worked into an epic ‘film style live-action poster’, capturing the narrative and danger of Riley and Kina’s adventure. 3D Maps showing shark movement and migration routes were created, using various data sources and encompassing them into a clear 3-dimensional topographic maps; both on a ‘continental scale’ and on a ‘macro coastal close-up’.
Visual effects were also used to enhance sequences such as bite marks and damage to ‘Bait Ball Camera Traps’.
