Fame. Power. Respect. Money can bring it all. And drain it all away. Season two of Rich & Shameless tells the true stories of the successes, failures, thrills and miseries that accompany wealth in the world of sport. Using a combination of powerful interviews, unique archive and atmospheric visuals, Rich & Shameless goes behind the public facade to reveal the dangers of great prosperity. Subjects include Dennis Rodman’s stolen millions, Hulk Hogan’s leaked sex tape, a Patriots line-backer caught in a deadly love triangle and the murder of NBA star Lorenzen Wright.
Holey & Moley were commissioned to develop and style this returning docuseries; comprising eight new feature episodes. Series branding across the strand was mixed with the specialist requirements of each film, this included visual effects, composites, maps, retouching, camera tracking, social media reconstruction, bullet-time, timelines, websites and 2D and 3D animation. Each film used these techniques to enhance the stories and narrative, often creating sequences that would link archive, reconstruct key moments or conceptually capture the essence and history of these amazing stories.
Storyboarded and filmed sequences such as the Dennis Rodman skin tattoos were specially shot, which were then camera tracked to add animated graphic tattoos that would capture the story narrative and create evocative graphic segues for the film to reflect the changes and direction of Rodmans’ life.
Another example could be the 3D reconstructions of key gameplay moments from the NFL Scandal film; this involved analysing various archive angles of a key NFL tackle for example and then recreating that collision or player/s perfectly so that a 3D camera could move and pivot around the key injury or ‘slow-motion-bullet-time’ moment. Enhanced views then allowed for x-ray or ultrasound style graphic passes to show internal organ damage, all done in 3D hyper-real slow motion. This could show the impact or damage in much more detail than the naked eye, with bones breaking, hematomas, fractures, and internal bleeding all seen in a 3D slow-motion moment, that links in and out of the exact moment from the archive; creating a seamless segue for the visual effects and enhanced view to truly engage with the editorial narrative.
